Runway Review: Band of Outsiders Fall 2011
by Americana Guest Blogger, Jim Shi
For his first runway outing, Scott Sternberg hit it out of the ballpark. His men’s collection, Band of Outsiders, was shown side-by-side with his two women’s lines, Boy and Girl, and the results were as ever-charming and relaxed as his personal aesthetic. Sternberg, whose past presentation format has featured everything from a Patrick Bateman–inspired corporate headquarters to Nantucket sand dunes, managed to swiftly present his 47-look show with a sense of humor: “Don’t freak out—it seems like a lot, but it will go by super-fast.” Layering was a recurring theme, with plenty of cargo pants in different incarnations from pajamas to a bustled floorlength skirt. Sternberg really creates an entire lifestyle at Band of Outsiders, so why not use the opportunity to show it all off? Leggings? Check. Rabbit scarves? Check. Hiking boots? But, of course.
