At the Gucci and Vanity Fair Cannes Film Festival party celebrating Sergio Leone’s “Once Upon a Time in America,” Salma Hayek-Pinault and Jennifer Connelly both wore Gucci, the former in a one of a kind midnight blue strapless cocktail dress fully embellished with paillettes and a three-dimensional floral embroidered detail at the neckline and around the waist while the latter donned a one of a kind short sleeved cocktail dress all over embroidered in deep green metallic overlapping paillettes with small gold box clutch and black velvet peep toe evening sandals.

Continuing the harder-edged theme we first saw during New York Fashion Week, Frida Giannini, at the start of Milan Fashion Week, kicked things into high gear with a Gucci collection that was indulgent to a default—but with extra sex appeal. Inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite period, Giannini imagined her girls as Edward Burne Jones’s modern day heroines. The clothes were darkly romantic; an outstanding variety, the color palette was kept muted and elegant while masculine motifs were interspersed throughout. The Gucci girl isn’t trying too hard for fall; from the narrow black velvet skirts and military jackets to the stunning floral patterns and fitted sheath-dresses, it was all there for the taking. As for evening? The dark, almost Goth-like, gowns offered something for everyone: off-the-shoulder in emerald green silk-and-velvet to a chiffon burgundy dress with trailing ruffles.
“The prevalence of 1950’s inspired looks on the runways provided us with the creative juice for Americana Manhasset’s Spring campaign,” said Charles DeCaro. “We didn’t want to be subtle this season, but decided instead to run with the theme in a big, fun way, with a ton of kitschy props and a wink and a smile. As always, although we put forth a strong editorial voice, it is paramount that the fashion and respective designers’ messages remain the focus.” From Chanel and Louis Vuitton to Tory Burch and Vince, each brand enjoys a unique image that also works as part of the whole.

As part of Gucci’s 90th anniversary celebration this year they decided to take a stylish spin with another titan of Italian design, Fiat. Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini in collaboration with Fiat’s design office has customized the iconic Fiat 500, or as it’s known in Italian, “cinquecento.” Called Fiat 500 by Gucci, the special edition car comes in glossy black or white.
Throughout the sporty car, we found distinctive Gucci elements starting with the iconic green and red stripe, which runs along the exterior and also appears inside on the seats, gearshift, carpet, and seatbelt! The seatbelts were our fav! The Interlocking GG makes an appearance on the hubcaps and head rests, and topping off the design is the cursive Gucci signature, which you’ll find on the hatchback as well as the doorpost.
You could be the first to shift into high gear by pre-ordering the Fiat 500 by Gucci. All Fiat showrooms are taking orders now and the car, priced at $25,000 will be shipped in January.
This has certainly got us pumped and anxious for our Concours d’Elegance taking place October 23rd.Celebrating Gucci’s 90th anniversary, it made sense that Frida Giannini would turn the flapper era 1920s for a bevy of finale pieces finished with a coat of metallic luster. While the cocktail dresses, a node to the Great Gatsby, were shiny, the rest of the sportswear-centric lineup was cast in an Art Deco palette of green, black and white: masculine tailoring with pantsuits, some ruched at the ankle, that was an abstract reference to pure geometry like the Chrysler Building and women of that time: Nancy Cunard and Louise Brooks. The sharp metallic jackets paired with high-waisted pants feature plenty of jewelry-inspired closures and animal references (zebra and python among them). But back to evening: the chemise and dropped-waist silhouettes were lavishly embellished with sequins, metal, Plexiglass paillettes and metal chain fringe. While it was one of the few times where Giannini didn’t reference the Gucci archives, it was nevertheless sharp, strong and full of glamour and androgyny.
