Céline - Runway Review

Nearly about to give birth to her third child (a boy, if you were wondering), Phoebe Philo took a much-deserved break from the chaos that surrounds a runway show to host two intimate Céline presentations in her showroom that were all about balancing the body—no matter the point. The collection skimmed the body just so, but the key word was big: big coats, pants and sweaters. This was Philo’s interpretation of the working woman and how she incorporates the notion of masculinity. Accessorized with fold-over bags and slick leather iPad envelopes, the clothes were utterly chic, including to-die-for outerwear, practical ankle-cropped pants and sweatshirts with sleeves ballooned up to double as another piece of outerwear.

Celine - Runway Review

The power woman continues unabated at Céline, where Phoebe Philo conjured a well-positioned woman—confident yet never aggressive—for her spring catwalk. Sharp knife pleats continued as an architectural theme on the skirts while trousers were loosened into a more ballooning shape. Tops, meanwhile, came fashioned in leather as smooth as silk and tunics whose pleats fluttered in the wind like a butterfly’s wings. It was a collection chock full of desirable separates, many in beautiful forest greens, scarlets and dark reds. Patterns were nonexistent, although many of the looks were smartly belted: a three-quarter-length coat worn over a full skirt or a slim coat paired with chic trousers. At the end of the day, no one cuts a more refined blouse-cum-trouser silhouette than Phoebe Philo.
