“Louis Vuitton - Marc Jacobs”, an exhibition at Les Arts Décoratifs, Paris, from March 9th to September 16th, 2012.
This exhibition tells the stories of two men, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs (artistic director of LV), and will highlight their contributions to the fashion world. How did they succeed in taking the pulse of their respective periods to innovate and take an entire industry forward? How did these two personalities, each with their own language, appropriate cultural phenomena and codes to write the history of contemporary fashion?
We love this curious and beautiful message found on a mirror in Dior’s Paris flagship store.
Relaxing the house codes at Dior, Bill Gaytten took the very best of the brand’s DNA—a peplumed jacket and a swirly-skirted skirt—and modernized it without any bold gestures or vintage harkings. With a loose ballerina theme weaving its way through the collection, Gaytten delivered one look after another that reinforced the notion of tailoring but infused with a new spirit. That translated into sharp waist dresses with feminine full skirts flaring into knife-pleats, a noticeable absence of prints and, topping it all off, block-toe platform shoes. This was safe and timeless at its best.
